Pripyat Children’s and Maternity Ward
Припять детский и родильный дом

The Children’s and Maternity Ward was a vital part of Pripyat City Hospital No. 126. This facility cared for the youngest citizens of the atomic city and their mothers right up until the disaster. Explore the haunting remains of these rooms where life in Pripyat began and suddenly stopped.
Pripyat was a very young town in 1986. The average age of a resident was only 26 years old. Because of this, many young couples lived there and had babies often. The maternity ward stayed busy as new families grew. Doctors and nurses worked hard to care for pregnant women and newborn infants every day.
The Children’s Ward sat right next to the maternity section. It provided medical help for toddlers and older kids. These buildings are on Druzhby Narodov Street, located on the edge of the city. They were part of a large medical campus known as МСЧ-126.
The Hospital Layout
The hospital was not just one building. It was a large complex with many different areas. There were sections for dental work, a clinic for infectious diseases, and even a mortuary. The wards for mothers and children were connected to the main hospital hub. This made it easy for doctors to move between departments when patients needed special care.
Life After the Accident
On the night of the explosion, the hospital changed forever. It was the first place to receive the firefighters and plant workers. These men had high levels of radiation on their clothes. Most people do not know that the basement of this hospital still holds those highly radioactive uniforms today.
While the basement is dangerous, the upper floors of the maternity ward tell a different story. You can still see small metal cribs lined up in rows. Some rooms still have medical charts or tiny glass bottles on the shelves. It is a quiet, sad place that reminds visitors of the thousands of children who once called Pripyat home.
The ward stands as a silent monument to the families of the lost city.
